Buying a new car is always a stressful time for me. Dealing with Sam Thornbury was a pleasant experience overall. He was knowledgeable about the cars I mentioned and displayed no pushiness that can often be associated with purchasing a new car. I appreciated the fact that he allowed me to drive the new car for at least 30 minutes on my own both on highways and in town settings. His pleasant, friendly personality made this purchase quite easy for me. However, I do think that I was not given an adequate evaluation for my trade in 2008 Enclave by Joshua. It had reasonably low mileage (122000 km.) and was in reasonable condition for the age of the car. The car had been serviced for the better part of its life at Lindsay Buick and I never let a problem slip. I had it immediately repaired or replaced. The vehicle had 15,000 km on it when I purchased the car from Marvin Starr himself at his dealership, so in the 6 1/2 years of my ownership, I had only added about 107,000 km. The car had every single option available for this model so I had expected a higher trade in value than I was offered. I had checked out the possible trade in value in car magazines and they ranged from $15,000 - $19,000. I was offered $11,000 later upped to $12,000. I realize that the dealership has to make a profit in its dealings with car wholesalers, but I did think that the trade in was unreasonably low. However, I had finally made up my mind to purchase a new vehicle for my trip south for the winter and since I hate haggling with a passion, I accepted Joshua's second price. However, the worst part of the deal came when I was sent to see Cindy. Cindy is a lovely person but she is the epitome of a "fast talking sales person." Her opening words were "I have picked out a couple of plans for you." She then went on to RAPIDLY explain the plans she was promoting. To be perfectly honest, I came away from that experience with my head literally spinning. She spoke a mile a minute for what seemed like an eternity. Her approach to sales was exactly what turns me off buying a new car. Buying a car is most people's second largest purchase after a house. Your mind is spinning with facts and figures and then you are hit with someone like Cindy. I came away with my head literally spinning and when I got home and looked at the bill of sale, her fast talking had added over $5,000 to the price of the car. I would have far rather dealt with Sam for these additional purchases. Her approach totally turned me off Lindsay Buick. I would rather deal with a sales person who approached their job in a slow, methodical manner or presentation. I know that she is working for the dealership and her job is to "up" the cost of the deal. This is the only part of the entire car purchase that disappointed me. I would rather deal with a slow talking, calm person rather than what I experienced. I expect that she must work on commission with the way that she deals with Lindsay Buick's customers. I might have ended up purchasing an identical amount of "plans" but her sales technique is NOT to my liking. In my 52 years of driving, I have bought several cars and you are always sent to see a person like Cindy after the deal is firmed up, but she was the only one who left me with the feeling of having been "taken." I look forward to continuing to work with Jim Forsythe in the years ahead as the car needs attention and also with Sam Thornbury who was my original sales person, but in future, I will not deal with the likes of "fast and smooth talking Cindy." Her entire rapid fire approach was not to my liking. On a happier note, I have had the car for almost 2 weeks now and have driven it over 1200, km. The car has performed beautifully and I am happy with its performance to this point.
