A few weeks ago, I brought my 2014 Civic in to test the block heater. There had recently been a new GFCI outlet installed at my home, and whenever I tried to plug in the block heater, the outlet would trip and shut off. When I contacted the electrician, he replaced the GFCI, but he maintained quite strongly that there had to be something wrong with my block heater. My neighbor was able to plug in without difficulty, so this seemed likely. When I brought in my Civic, the service department tested the block heater and could find nothing wrong with it. However, nothing changed at my end. The block heater continued to trip the outlet. So, I finally made the decision to replace the supposedly functioning block heater with a new one. I made arrangements to bring my car in on Feb. 6. Unfortunately, that morning when I tried to start my car it was dead. I had CAA tow my car to Winnipeg Honda for service. When I spoke with the service advisor, I reminded him of the story of my previous visit, and he said they would test the heater and also test the battery to see if it was functioning properly. When I called back later that day, they told me to please leave the car with them over the weekend in order to let it thaw out. Yesterday, I called in the morning and I was told the battery was dead and I would need a new one. Since I had just purchased that battery at Supertune 2 years ago, I still had 3 years to go on the replacement warranty, so that was the next thing I needed to do. In the meantime, the new block heater was installed by Winnipeg Honda. When I finally arrived at Honda in the morning, I asked if my car had been boosted so I could then drive it over to Supertune. The service advisor at the cash desk told me he would go outside and try to start my car, and as I watched him I could see that the car had started without any difficulty and he drove it closer to the door for me to get into it. I was confused as to why the car had started, but then I realized they had probably charged the battery sufficiently for me to be able to drive it. When I finally paid for the work (about $500.00, including the battery test), I got into my car and immediately noticed the check engine light was on. It said "check emission system". I immediately went back into the service bay and spoke with (Carli?) and she said oh it probably meant the battery was dying and if I wanted to bring it back after getting my battery replaced, they would scan it for me. I was very disconcerted by this. And afterward, when I was finally at home, I found myself wondering why this check engine light had not been brought to my attention before I even arrived at Honda. Someone drove my car out of the building and into the parking lot, and the person who started my car for me must have also seen it. So I think this was very negligent on the part of the service department. Next, I took my car to Supertune to have the battery replaced. They fully tested it, and found nothing wrong with it. Which means I paid for the battery check at Honda and it was inaccurate. As for the check engine light (check emission system), Supertune determined that the O2 sensor had been disconnected, probably when the new block heater was being installed. Again, negligence on the part of Winnipeg Honda. So I have two scans that I had to pay for, one that was an inaccurate assessment at Winnipeg Honda, and one that should have been done free of charge before I even left the parking lot. Supertune did not charge me for the battery scan. The total cost of the scans was approximately $100.00. Today, my car started without any difficulty. The block heater is working just fine. However, I am very annoyed and upset with my experience at Winnipeg Honda. I do not think the service department used the proper diligence when servicing my car. And with regard to the original block heater, I am mystified as to how it could have been deemed to be in good working order, when the new one obviously had to be installed. I have a suspicion that the old block heater was probably malfunctioning for a very long time.

Their motto is Making Car Ownership Easy! Yes, pay the money and you get a car! Easy!!But after if you have a problem, they blame you . So many negative experiences with their sales staff. With the car becoming immobile after purchasing just two weeks earlier, they had no legal obligation to do anything. But perhaps a moral one! Yet they managed to replace the battery for over $200 and a tow totaling about $320! The car was sold for a premium price so you'd think that would want to give a break on the battery cost. Not Winnipeg Honda! And the GM refused to return numerous phone calls. We never plan on returning to this dealership. We are sorry that we went there. This will be the first and last dealings with the Crown Group! Caveat emptor!!
