Chev warranty work

January 21, 2023

Back in 2018 I bought a brand new Chev Silverado 1500 from Vickar Chevrolet Winnipeg as I was living there. Since then I have had no problems with my vehicle and moved to Moose Jaw, with Murray GM servicing my vehicle. I had a front CV axel break on my truck (first problem with it since buying) and called Murray to inquire about the warranty and if a CV axel was covered under warranty or a quote for repair. Murray would not tell me over the phone if the axel was covered under warranty or not without seeing the vehicle. I explained to them I crawled under the vehicle and found it was the CV axel and nothing else wondering if it was covered under powertrain warranty as they confirmed my vehicle still had Powertrain warranty. I told them if it wasn’t covered I wasn’t bringing my truck into the shop and would fix it myself. They wouldn’t give me an answer if it was covered. I called two dealerships in Regina who within 2 minutes of the phone call confirmed that my truck had warranty still and that a CV axel would be covered under warranty. Being from Moose Jaw I did not book it into Regina Shops as I did not want to go through the hassle of towing the vehicle to Regina. Numerous friends and coworkers of mine warned me not to deal with Murray GM MJ as everyone had a story about previous bad experiences. I decided to give them a chance and maybe they just had back luck etc. I took the vehicle to Murray GM after confirming with other dealerships that the CV axel is covered through powertrain warranty. I explained to Hugh that I while my vehicle was in the shop the next few days if they could have someone go through my truck giving me a quote for trade in value. My truck at this time had approximately 45000km only. Hugh from Murray GM service department called me updating me that one of their techs was able to confirm it was only a broken CV axel and that It would be covered through my vehicle warranty. However Hugh explained that I must have bought the vehicle used and added a levelling kit to the vehicle which voided all warranty. I explained that I bought the truck brand new from Winnipeg and the truck was levelled from the dealership there without my request. (it was a black out package that the dealership did to the vehicle) Hugh told me to call Winnipeg and quoted me roughly $950 to fix the axel. I phoned Vikars Chev in Winnipeg and explained what was happening. I dealt with Ryan Smith in service, his boss Ryan Siepman the service manager and the shop foreman Bill Dopson. Everyone was shocked and wondered why MJ wasn’t taking care of customers. Winnipeg explained theres no way a levelling kit caused my axel to break and wanted to speak with MJ Service Manager Matt Dayton. I phoned Matt Dayton MJ Service manager and explained the whole situation. I asked Matt to reach out to Winnipeg trying to figure this out together and gave the names of people I spoke to. Matt was rude saying that he held the same position as Siepman and nothing was going to change and refused to phone Winnipeg for me. I was shocked as I figured this was part of a service managers job. Matt explained the levelling kit voided my truck warranty and nothing would change that. Eventually I got Matt to call Siepman who wasn’t working (this was a day later) and he spoke with Dopson. Matt explained to me that he spoke with Dopson who agreed that the levelling kit voided the trucks warranty and I was SOL. I phoned Dopson back and wondered how he told me something completely opposite. I told Dopson what Matt had told me. Dopson said that was not how their conversation went at all and explained “there is no reason they can’t cover that,” and explained Winnipeg would have fixed it already for the customer. Ryan Smith took it a step further calling Murray GM Winnipeg checking with their warranty admin who fully agreed the levelling kit would not break the axel and that MJ was being very petty. I took all of this to Matt explaining the conversations with Winnipeg dealership. Matt dismissed all of it and said that it wasn’t covered and nothing would change that. Murray GM MJ had now likely flagged my truck to Chev as being “modified” although I never did a single thing to the vehicle, thus stopping me from towing my vehicle to another dealership as Chev Canada would not likely not reimbursed a dealership for the axel as MJ has flagged it as modified. Matt was terrible to deal with and explained to me that just for today since this was day 3 of phone tag and myself without a vehicle that he would lower the repair cost from that approximate $950 to $640 to “get me back on the road” as if they were doing me a big favour. I phoned Winnipeg back explaining this. They have had enough and phoned MJ telling them to invoice Winnipeg Vickar if they were being this terrible to customers. Winnipeg explained MJ was on a complete island and had no idea how they kept business. In the end Winnipeg paid for the axel fix and MJ did the warranty work billing Winnipeg approx $640. After battling with MJ for 3-4 days I had my truck back with a new Cv axel. MJ was terrible to deal with and I was very disappointed with Matt Dayton. Murray GM never ended up giving me a quote on my truck while it was in their possession for 3-4 days. I won’t be buying from Murray GM Mj or dealing with them for any reason in the future period. My truck was like new with approx 45k on the vehicle and this was the first problem I had ever had. If this is how Chevrolet warranty works my next truck won’t be gm/chev period. Since this, I was updated from Winnipeg that a blanket warranty note came out from Chev which technically backs Murray Gm Mj up with how they would not cover the axel due to the levelling kit. However Winnipeg still explained any dealership would still cover the broken axel for the customer as the truck was not modified and a levelling kit was not the reason my axel broke. I strongly recommend not giving Murray Gm MJ a chance and listening to other reviews. I will not be dealing with them in the future. Murray GM couldn’t even give me a trade in value price to buy a new vehicle through them.

Great people and service

December 22, 2022

Stopped in to see what they had for used trucks and was greeted shortly after I arrived on the lot. Asked what we were looking for. Looked at a truck that was similar to what we wanted. We’re told they had another truck that had just come in but hadn’t been cleaned yet and to have a look around at the other dealerships as well and they would clean it up a bit if we wanted to come back. Came back, test drove the truck on the lot and then looked at the one they had freshly washed for us to look at. Gave us pricing and payment options on both vehicles without pressure. Ended up purchasing the one they had just gotten in. Zen was friendly and accommodating as well as the everyone we dealt with.

very poor encounter

December 15, 2022

I am very disappointed in the response I got from Matt regarding the driveshaft bearing on my 2021 cadillac xt5(howling noise)I had taken him for a ride to let them hear it and of course after driven a bit the howl quietens down he did say he heard it at one point.I explained to him this problem had been diagnosed at capital gm in regina as a bad driveshaft bearing he rudely said to me " then why are you bringing it here" I replied I wanted him to hear it the part was on order and on speaking with GM to find out when it would arrive they told me it was in at capital I asked if I could have the work done in moosejaw , they said take at any GM dealer you want. I had explained I lived here and didn't really care to drive highways in the winter to regina I phoned capital and asked if they would sen d it to murrays here, no problem. they would contact Matt to let him know and I said I would contact him also he gets upset with me. says he can't do it I would have to go to capital and have it done (rudely)very poor attitude from management. It seems everytime I have a problem with the car he disagrees with what I have to say as if I don't know what I'm talking about. been around a long time

Matt and his crew diagnosed the problems, kept us informed on the progress, and fixed everything that was needed. While the performance of this particular Buick is somewhat disappointing the service at Murray GM is excellent.
